Death to the phrase, #AfterAllIveDoneForYou!!!
While having an intimate moment with God, he laid upon my heart how selfish Christians have become. Before I go into my blog message, let me just say, at some point, when upset with God or even another person, we’ve uttered the words, “this is how you treat me after all I’ve done for you”…. I found myself being highly convicted about this, hence, the reason I’m composing this post.
You see, when we do good deeds, they should never be brought up later. We’re not here to please people, we’re here to do what God has called us to do. In the scripture it states:
“In God we boast all day long, And praise Your name forever. Selah”- Psalms 44:8 NKJV
Making a statement “After all I’ve done…” is indicating YOU have the power and the deed was in fact selfishly done when that is soooo far from the truth. YOU don’t have the power, It is not YOU who does great things but the God IN you…
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”– Matthew 6:1-4 NKJV
The scriptures noted above goes against everything that society has transcended to. Everything is displayed, everything is posted on social media or captured for worldly praises. Everything that’s done is disguised as “marketing” when you’re not realizing how spiritually immoral it is. Yet sadly, some people don’t realize they are falling into this category.
Simply making a statement “I’m giving God the praise” does not impactl/impress God. He’s impressed when people are converted from sinner to saved. He’s impressed when hearts are pure. He’s impressed when you increase your faith and decrease your fears. He’s impressed when you are not concerned with the view point of men but the viewpoint of him. He’s concerned about righteousness, he’s concerned about uprightness. He’s concerned about clean hands and clean hearts. He’s also concerned with you walking in forgiveness and love, realizing it’s not about YOU.
What if God stated to you, after all I’ve done for you… you STILL sinned? How would this make you feel? “After all he’s done for you, he really could use this, I mean he did send his son to die for YOU, he did bring you out of bondage. He did save you from the pits of hell. Some of you, he’s saved from death, from sicknesses and diseases, from heartbreak, from abuse, from rejection, from fear, from oppression, and some of you, he saved YOU from YOU. But he does not hold that over your head. He has declared that once you are new in Christ you are a new creature. Old things has passed away, behold all things are new (paraphrased 1 Corinthians 5:17).
Understand this, God is not looking for us to be praised. He is looking for us to constantly witness his praises to and for others.
“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity”.
As I wrap up, you don’t have to worry if God knows your heart or unseen acts of kindness. The text states:
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them” –Hebrews 6:10 NKJV
From this day forward, know that you never have to use the phrase “After all I’ve done for you”…. God is well aware of all you’ve done. When wrongfully accused, misconstrued or mistreated, simply know that God knew and still knows your heart. He will reward you in heaven.
